Stylist Spotlight: Carlee
How long have you been doing hair?
Legally? 11 years! I grew up playing with everyone's hair so it always just made sense for me to do something creative in the hair world.
Where did you go to school?
I went to Aveda in Minneapolis.
What is your hair specialty/favorite thing to do?
I love doing color and updos, but I wouldn't say I specialize in one specific thing because I really do love doing everything that has to do with hair. Cut compliments color, color compliments your skin tone and eyes, it just all goes hand in hand, so I love doing it all.
What is your go-to product that you can’t live without?
I love Keratherapy Rapid Rescue spray because it's most lightweight product that gives you heat protection, softness, and shine without a heavy or sticky feeling, and of course Mane Tamer Conditioner because its thick AF and my hair definitely needs taming...
What is your go-to Starbucks order?
Iced cold press with almond milk and a little dark chocolate. I add the dark chocolate bc I have a pretty limited diet, so I gotta spice up my life with somethin' good every once and awhile!
Who is your biggest style icon?
The Little Mermaid, for obvious reasons.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done with your hair?
I had a Mohawk a while back, I chopped all my hair off to really get a feel for short hair and learn about it. I just figured, how do you cut someone else's hair off and teach them how to love it without knowing about it yourself first?
How long does it take you to get ready every morning?
I get up super early, usually around 6:30, to spend some time with my dog, Stella. We have breakfast, take a walk and then I get all done up and dressed for the day. The whole thing takes about 35 mins, which is actually miraculous considering the massive amounts of hair that I have.
What is a hair trend you wish would make a comeback?
Finger Waves from the 20’s because they're BA and classy as all get out.
What are you bingeing on Netflix?
Usually documentaries, anything that has to do with animal planet, nature, aliens, or history. I also just started Handmaid's Tale!
What do you like to do outside of the salon?
I like to do hardanger embroidery, which is a fancy norwegian sewing technique used to make doilies and other things, so I'm usually working on one of those! I cook a lot, mostly because I stick to a gluten, dairy, and sugar free diet, but I do sort if like it... sometimes. Year-round I love to fish too, I live right on a lake so it's always there if I'm looking for something to do!
